Jack’s current practice concentrates in civil litigation in both Illinois and Federal courts, with a primary emphasis on the defense of medical malpractice claims, as well as legal and other professional negligence claims. Jack has also had extensive trial experience in commercial litigation. He has been an active trial attorney since 1966, and has tried over 150 cases to jury verdict. He has also tried hundreds of non-jury trials and contested matters, including claims for injunctive relief.

Jack has practiced with RWR since 1974. In 1976, he was promoted to partnership in the firm of Ruff & Grotefeld (the predecessor to RWR) and has been a named senior partner in the present firm since 1981. He came to RWR after serving for several years as the original in-house counsel for the Great American Insurance Company in Chicago. Prior to that position, he worked as an associate at Popejoy, Nelson, Lucas and Spear in Wheaton, Illinois, and was the managing attorney for the Law Firm of George F. Barrett.

Jack has been a frequent lecturer for the Illinois State Bar Association, and has lectured across the state on topics such as products liability, Structural Work Act, and compensatory and punitive damages.
